Family Values; Developing a Residential Resort Community
Fernando Berdegue, Director of Real Estate, Construction and New Projects, Grupo El Cid

El Cid takes pride in developing residential resort communities that integrate natural surroundings and the family values our company shares. As a family-owned business for over thirty years, our goal is to build upscale communities designed to offer quality living and an array of facilities that incorporate long-term sustainability. We cultivate thriving neighborhoods that yield efficiencies in performance while providing environmental stewardship and social liability. To assure our values are met, we follow a strict set of principles in approaching each development opportunity.
In Mazatlan, Sinaloa, El Cid consists of 2,000 homes and condos over 300 hectares interspersed with 27-holes of championship-style golf and well-designed marina canals. It is home to a flourishing community of nationals and North Americans that co-exist in harmony as, true to our motto, we have “Something for Everyone”. In addition to the PGA golf course, El Cid Country Club offers an elite tennis facility, spa services, state-of-the-art fitness center, racquetball courts and a lap pool. All of our facilities are self-owned and managed enabling us to maintain the level of service standards we value.
While golf courses, tennis facilities and spas may have driven resort destinations years ago, today, they are expected amenities to our discerning owners. Signature courses such as our popular nine-hole layout designed by Lee Trevino are essential to attract outside clientele and bring in additional revenue. Renowned golf and tennis pros help promote international tournaments and championship plays for continued exposure.
Our complex is intertwined with man-made lakes home to a myriad of turtles, fish and a diverse species of birds. Re-cycled waste water from our two treatment plants is used to fill the lakes and irrigate the gardens and golf course with an automated system. This effort greatly reduces the burden of the municipality tying in to our belief that our residential community supports our surrounding community. Canals throughout the development connect to our 120-slip El Cid Marina attracting professional fishermen who enjoy the challenge of sport-fishing and respect our rules of catch and release.
While many developments are restricted to the restaurants, lounges and activities onsite, El Cid owners are welcome to experience our collection of four nearby resorts. An extensive array of options ranging from beachfront activities and diverse restaurants to water sports and live entertainment are at their doorstep. This extension of our development, along with our efforts to incorporate ecological practices, entice consumers to pay a premium for property that meets their lifestyle and security requirements.
My family, brothers and their families have lived, worked and recreated at El Cid since its inception. Our aspiration is to have a profound, positive impact on our community while preserving our natural environment. What we have learned in developing our residential community and resorts in Mazatlan has been implemented in our Riviera Maya/Cancun project and will be followed in other resort locations we are developing throughout Mexico.
